What's in a word?

In my post Fear and Loathing of the B Word, I lamented the silliness of the word "blog" as inadequate to desribe an important revolution in journalism and online publishing. Today I found a post on Wired News, where in an interview with Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post was asked this:

WN: The word "blog" sounds like the noise someone makes after a plate of nachos and a few too many shots of tequila. Care to nominate another term?

And she answered:

Huffington: I used to think "blog" was a very inadequate word to describe such an important innovation -- an innovation whose impact on our culture has only just begun to unfold. But, at the same time, I really don't believe that you can just create words. For better or worse, terms like this evolve organically.... So I would suggest that you find a way to grow to, if not love it, then at least not hate it, because I have a very strong feeling that both the phenomenon and the word are here to stay.

Nice to know I am not alone!
